Re[2]: INFORMIX tables into ACCESS?
Posted in 1997
I am just now playing with this using access 97. It was really simple to link to an existing informix database and pull in the definitions and also as easy to export a new table to Informix from Access. I have not looked in detail at the changes in data types that may exist as well as the fact that you loose your integrity rules but I was amazed at how simple it was to look at and modify the data. I do have one problem that I would like to ask about though. When opening a Access database that has linked informix tables after their initial migration I am getting and ODBC error? I do not get prompted for a userid or password, which I did when I set up the intial link, and wonder if this may be related to the problem? Any insights would be most appreciated.. Yes! We use on an RS6000 Host INFORMIX-ONLINE 5 with INFORMIX-STAR and on the Windows 95/NT Clients INFORMIX-CLI. In INFORMIX-CLI there is an ODBC-Driver that allows you to use MS-Query. And with MS-Query, you can include the tables to MS Access. For installation routines post again. A second possibility (a cheaper one, that work very fine with HP/UX and Informix but is not so easy to install with AIX) is the program TUN. This is an Software form ESKER, that include terminal emulations, NFS, and ODBC-Driver for HOST and Client for different databases. Live long and prosper!
