I do not believe that you can duplicate an instance on the same box unless: 1) You change the chunk path names used with the original instance before you restore an earlier copy from a backup. -- or -- 2) You use relative paths in your chunk path names. Each of these approaches raises its own set of issues and is probably not supported by Informix. -----Original Message----- From: klawson@aetinc.com [mailto:klawson@aetinc.com] Sent: Monday, January 08, 2001 07:26 To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Duplicating an instance on the same box Anyone have an opinion on the best method to duplicate a 70gig instance on the same box? Onbar works well for duplicating an instance on a different box but doesn't work for the same box. Thoughts? Thanks Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/
Rick, Thanks for the reply... I guess what I'm looking for is what migration tool works best for this or has someone who has previously done this have scripts/info that could be used. You are right on both your points below if I'm trying to do a restore but #1) can't be done and #2) would require me to rebuild me primary instance. What I am looking for is how to best 'copy' the data. Thanks for your thoughts. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ In article <93csio$nbs$1@news.xmission.com>, "Bernstein, Rick" <rbernste@alarismed.com> wrote: > > I do not believe that you can duplicate an instance on the same box > unless: > 1) You change the chunk path names used with the original instance > before you restore an earlier copy from a backup. -- or -- > 2) You use relative paths in your chunk path names. > > Each of these approaches raises its own set of issues and > is probably not supported by Informix. > > -----Original Message----- > From: klawson@aetinc.com [mailto:klawson@aetinc.com] > Sent: Monday, January 08, 2001 07:26 > To: informix-list@iiug.org > Subject: Duplicating an instance on the same box > > Anyone have an opinion on the best method to duplicate a 70gig instance > on the same box? > > Onbar works well for duplicating an instance on a different box but > doesn't work for the same box. > > Thoughts?
