Error during tbinit
Posted in 1995
Hello out there, we're running Online 4.10.UC3 on a Motorola 8220. Last week we've encountered a very strange error with informix. Perhaps somebody have any idea... The database was working very well till tomorrow morning. Then the machine must be rebooted, because nobody was able to login (even on the console). So we must turn the power off to reboot. After the reboot, there was no chance to start Informix-Online. We've got always the error message Bad primary chunk '/dev/turbo_root' Error with shared memory initialization. So we had to restore the databases from a backup:-( But then we have found something strange in our INFORMiX-logfile. The last entry was from 3 days ago. But the users have definitly worked the last 3 days. And here are my questions: 1 a) What does the above error message (Bad primary...) say? b) Has anybody an explanation? c) Isn't there a tool to repair bad chunks (something like fsck for the UNIX filesystem)? 2 a) Why is there not even a "checkpoint completed" message in our logfile? b) Which process writes this message normaly to the log? I have always thougt, that this is done by tbinit. But does this mean, that all tbinit's have gone away? Why can users work, when there is no tbinit? Thanks for taking time to read this and perhaps somebody have any idea on this topic. Thanks in advance...
