One instance of when I've encountered this type of error is when a
temp table remained in the systables table as a result of an
interrupted ALTER TABLE statement in a 5.0x OnLine database (as I
recall, my work was being rolled back because my logs weren't large
enough). The culprit table names begin with a blank space, so:
SELECT * FROM systables WHERE tabname MATCHES " *"
If you find any, note the tabid and as user informix:
UPDATE systables SET tabname = "lose_me" WHERE tabid = whatever;
DROP TABLE lose_me;
I'm not sure that this is your problem, but give it a try.
