I am trying to setup the informix client sdk on a nt box. The problem is I need help figuring out the service name to use when setting up odbc access. The database reside on a Sun soloris system. Can someone point out a way for me to figure out the service name or port used to access the database? Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
The service name should be in the last column of the $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file: servername protocol hostname servicename Also, it should be in the /etc/services file on the server, often on port 1536. It should also be put into the C:\\WINNT\\system32\\drevers\\etc\\services file on the client. <cornelhughes@netscape.net> wrote in message news:8d73i8$5mu$1@nnrp1.deja.com... > I am trying to setup the informix client sdk on a nt box. You did not mention which version of the engine - I will assume 7.x...
Check the $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file on the Solaris box. The third
column from the left is the hostname, fourth column from the left is the
service name, e.g.:
ids_hurricane ontlitcp hurricane ids
hurricane is the host name, ids is the service name in the above example
(this is our standard - to name the service ids - the default name is
usually sqlexec instead of ids).
Once you get the correct service name for the correct engine, look in the
/etc/services file on the Solaris box and locate the service name you got
from the sqlhosts file, e.g.
ids 1541/tcp # Informix Dynamic Server
Again - your port number may be different of course - I believe the default
is 1540.
Now, you need to have the same services file entry on your NT box, in the
following directory(assuming NT 4.0 and default directory structure):
\\winnt\\system32\\drivers\\etc

Visit http://www.indus-soft.com/winsql and go to the FAQ section. There you will find a detailed document on how to connect to an Informix DB from and NT box.
