I tried different tcp port numbers (ex: tcp 6975; tcp 55001) for my new IDS 11.7 UC 1 GE to listen to on RHEL 5 but i'm not able to connect to it using OAT or even "telnet hostname portnum". service iptables is off /etc/services file entry looks good /etc/hosts file for machine looks good netstat -an shows it is listening to 127.0.0.1:portnum so what gives?? Are there any error messages in the MSGPATH file when you bring the
server online? With your current version I believe it is possible to
get an engine online with no listener threads working. So onstat -
shows the server in "ON-LINE" mode, but if you have no working
listener threads, nobody could connect to the server. What protocol
are you trying to use? Can you verify in onstat -g ath that there is
some listener thread started, (assuming you are using soctcp you'd
could do onstat -g ath | grep tcplst)? If you have a listener thread
in the -g ath output, can what is it's stack look like (onstat -g stk
<thread id>)? If you don't have any listener threads started, what
does you $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file look like, and again, were
there any possible error messages in your MSGPATH file when the server
was brought online?

You don't want to listen on localhost-ish ip - remote hosts won't be able to connect. > > so what gives?? >
