Speaking strictly for myself and not for Informix, There are three issues here: (1) the FAQ, and (2) Solutions Guides and (3) Informix Manuals. (1) I do not consider it sensible for Informix or Informix staff to run the FAQ. If Informix staff ran it, it would always be suspect: is it impartial? does the spin put on the answers suit corporate needs more than the Informix user community. I will help Kerry where I can to ensure the information is accurate; so, I expect, will other Informix employees; so will the other people who read comp.databases.informix. However, it is far better if it is run autonomously by the group, rather than being run by Informix. Question: are any of the other comp.databases.vendor FAQ lists run by employees of the vendor? I assume not. (2) It seems sensible to me that the Solutions Guides should be available on-line since we provide the list free on paper too. I don't know whether there are any plans for this at the moment. (3) Since we still sell manuals, it is not clear that the manuals should be available onl-line and for free. The Tech Pubs group has noted the flurry of requests for on-line documentation. I don't know what will happen there either. Yours, Jonathan Leffler (johnl@informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h>
