Hey all -
I have recently installed Informix Online 6.0, ESQL/C 6.0, and ESQL/Runtime
6.0 on an HP 9000/755 workstation with 256M RAM, and 4G disk space.
Shared memory maximum (shmmax) is set at 64M in the kernel. After
running through the configuration screens in onmonitor, I try to bring
the database from off-line to quiescient mode, but receive the following
message:
fatal error: unable to initialize shared memory
(or something very similiar)
Upon return to the onmonitor menu, the bottom banner line says:
shared memory not initialized for INFORMIXSERVER ms15xol1
Now, I have several questions...
1) Are there any know problems with shared memory on HP workstations?
2) The release tapes specify HP-UX 9.04. I am running HP-UX 9.05. Does
this make a difference?
3) The errors in the online.log file are the result of me executing
oninit -i and oninit -s manually. They read similiar to the following:
listener-thread: err=-931: cannot locate ms15xsoc service/tcp in
/etc/services (Believe me, it's already there, and yes, the service
number is unique!)
My sqlhosts file looks like this:
ms15xol1 onipcshm manserv1 ms15xshm
ms15xol2 onsoctcp manserv1 ms15xsoc
I have a call into Informix tech. support (case# 306479) - they are
looking into the problem; I just thought I'd try all you techies out on
the net also. If Informix tech. support is reading this post, the
gentleman I am working with is Randy (no last name). He has been very
helpful and deserves a pat on the back... After dealing with Oracle tech
support for the last couple of years (what tech support?), I am pleased
to find someone interested in helping me solve this unusual problem.
Thanks Randy (if you're out there), and pre-thanks to any and all who
have any insights into this issue...
