Level 0 archives with repeated logical log backups in between seem to have met our archive needs; the one restore we had to do went OK. But the Administrator's Guide appears to recommend frequent level-1 and perhaps level-2 archives. The only direct benefit I see in this is a reduction of the number of logical log files. We use the same process currently although we have a fairly high volume. We do a daily level 0 archive with frequent logical log backups. We tend to loose around 2-3 disks per month in a network of almost 400 machines and we seem to do fairly well at recovering. Am I missing something? What are the arguments in favor of Level-1 and Level-2 archives, versus piling up the logical log backups? I would argue against incremental backups in all but the most controlled environments. I have seen too many problems due to one tape being bad or misplaced.
