Can 4GL access non-Informix databases?

Hi everyone.. Can Informix-4GL access other (ie: Oracle) databases? (Short of calling out to external C functions?) At one time, Informix was holding off on supporting ODBC or other interface methods. Anyone know if they've added this recently (either in the "core" product or via Dynamic-4GL)? I didn't think they could, but had someone claim they did an ODBC interface tfrom Informix-4GL the other day and am trying to determine if this is indeed something that can be done as it sounded fishy to me. Thanks! - MD

No. Neither Informix Classic 4GL nor Dynamic 4GL/4Js support other databases. However there are other third party 4GL vendors whose products support Informix 4GL source and other databases. Look into the Querix compiler which comes in Informix and Oracle flavors (and they say they are planning a unified version which can support both. There is another product advertised that claims ODBC support I just cannot remember it right now. Art S. Kagel

I believe 4Js (who made Dynamic-4GL) is about to release a native multiple database interface for their 4GL compiler. It would support Oracle, DB2 and MS-SQL server in addition to Informix, but not using ODBC. That's all I've heard. I think the original post referred to Aubit 4GL ? It allows access via ODBC from a 4gl similar to Informix (should eventually be pretty compatible). Its still in the early stages of development though and only available for Linux (Win32 is gonna be ready soon) - try it at www.aubit.com/a4gl.html (There should be a new version loaded sometime in the next two weeks to fix umteen serious bugs) Art S. QueriX provides a compatible 4gl which does work with Oracle; for more details please see our web site @ http://www.querix.com/ Moon Dog wrote: > Hi everyone.. > > Can Informix-4GL access other (ie: Oracle) databases?
