We just did a test at my company doing the same thing. You will need the Informix client and ODBC driver on each Access client. You can download the ClientSDK from informix which has both of these in it. Just remember you need to modify the services file on the client. There is a file on the Informix server you also need to modify so it will allow the client's machine to connect but it is the morning and I can't remember which one it is. I used this procedure on my NT 4.0 box and it was accurate, mostly ;) We use a particular (older) driver from Informix/Intersolv because others have given us fits. Substitute the IP address of your Informix server for the ones in the directions, and your own dbname where required. You may also want to connect as some other user than Informix. You can set up multiple connections to choose from on your PC. Hope it helps. -- Bill Converse ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Setting Up the Informix ODBC Drivers and Access There are a number of steps involved in setting up your NT box so that you can view tables of the Informix-driven production database with MS Access. Informix ODBC (open database connectivity) drivers must be put on your machine, Access must know about those drivers, and you must create a new link to a database inside Accesss. From the desktop: Install the Informix ODBC driver from the csdk_winNT40.zip file (note that this works for both NT and Windows 98). Reboot the PC so that the path setting takes affect. When Informix installs, it places an executable called "Informix Setnet32" in your Informix folder. Go to Start/Programs/Informix, run Informix Setnet32, and follow the steps below. From Informix Setnet32: From the environment tab, scroll to INFORMIXSERVER and set the value to scu1 (type in the value in the bottom left and click Set). Set the value for INFORMIXSQLHOSTS to the name of your workstation. Change to the Server Information tab. Set the Informix Server to scu1 (type it in, it won't be in the drop down box). Type in the host name of 192.10.20.6. Select the Protocolname of olsotcp. Type in the Service Name of turbo. Click on Apply, then OK to the message displayed. Select the Host Information tab. Type in the Current Host as 192.10.20.6 Type in the user name of informix. Select the password option of Ask Password At Runtime. Click on Apply, then OK to the message box. OK to exit Setnet32. From Notepad (or any other text editor): Edit the file Services (in the Windows or winnt\\system32\\drivers\\etc directory). Scroll down to where the Port Number is in the 1500 range. Add an entry for port number 1526 where the service name is turbo, port number is 1526 / protocol is tcp. Add an entry for port number 1530 where the service name is srv_agent, port number is 1530 / protocol is tcp. Save and exit the services file. From Control Panels: Go to ODBC control panel (32bit ODBC). Select the System DSN. Add a new DSN. Select the INTERSOLV 3.01 32-BIT INFORMIX driver. Type in a Data Source Name of your choice to identify the database to you when you access it. Type in a description of your choice. Enter the Database Name of st_switch (the database name used for our database is st_switch so this is what must be entered here). Select the Connection tab. Leave the Database List blank. Since the Get DB List from Informix is checked on the Advanced tab, this field is not used.. Click on the Advanced tab. Click on the options of Enable Scrollable Cursors and Enable Insert Cursors (leave the other two checked on also). Click on OK. Inside Access: Start Access and open a new, blank database. From the File menu, select Get External Data, then Link Tables In the Files of Type box in the lower left corner, select ODBC Databases. In the Select Data Source window that is displayed, click on the Machine Data Source tab, then select the Data Source Name set up in step 5 of the ODBC Setup section. Enter the informix password for the database. Usually, you will Select All to add all of the tables to your Access view. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ <ajithkumar15@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:8homd3$9mv$1@nnrp1.deja.com... > Hi All, > I need help in connecting access to the informix database. > Can someone walk me through the steps. Hi, Try http://www.indus-soft.com and go to the FAQ section. They have a document that explains how to connect to Informix using ODBC ajithkumar15@hotmail.com wrote: > Hi All, > I need help in connecting access to the informix database. > Can someone walk me through the steps.
