Now what?!? <smile> Well, first off, as you should know by now, please tell us which version of Linux you were using. Not least because root's home directory is /usr/root (or somewhere similar; it is *not* / on any Linux system I've come across), so you didn't follow the instructions because the kernel wasn't in your home directory.
