Hi About 2 to 3 years ago we spend a lot of time evaluating different ODBC drivers. There are about 30 different manufactures out there. 1. We found Openlink the fastest, best extra security build in {AFAIK, no other driver have all the extra security}, easy to set up, etc. 2. The Intersolve drivers {Now Merant}. Close to Openlink in speed, all ODBC functionality build in like Openlink, and not to expensive. Informix drivers are a subset of the Intersolve/Merant drivers, and I believe they also have drivers written entirely by them. All for free. 3 The rest of the drivers were mostly junk. You will find one with OK speed, but then lacked functionality of the ODBC layer, support, portability, etc. You need a driver that have forward and reverse scrollable cursors implemented. Mostly in our environments security is priority one. I cannot allow a external app to change data in any of our billing systems !!! Then comes functionality, cost + speed. All at the same level. If it is not for the extra security, I will stay with INFORMIX drivers - free - free. What is the network version if Merant ? SEQUELINK ? Hope it helps. -----Original Message----- From: Bhansali, Vinod [mailto:vbhansali@firstam.com] Sent: Saturday, September 02, 2000 2:41 AM To: 'informix-list@iiug.org' Subject: Informix ODBC Drivers vs Merant ODBC Drivers Hello all, Can anybody tell me how is the performance with Merant ODBC drivers as compared to Informix ODBC drivers(which are free). Has anyone used the network version of the Merant Data Direct ODBC drivers? How is its performance as compared to installing the ODBC drivers on individual desktops(clients)? Is their any degradation in performance by using network version of the Merant Data Direct ODBC drivers? Thanks a lot in advance for all your replies. There are actually more than 120 different entries in this ODBC driver vendor table: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Ken_North/odbcvend.htm JDBC drivers: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Ken_North/jdbcvend.htm OLE DB: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Ken_North/oledbven.htm =============== Ken North ============================= http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Ken_North =========================================================== Dr. Dobb's XML Channel: www.ddj.com/topics/xml ===========================================================
