} I am a new Informix user. I've followed the install instructions and
} have successfully installed the engine and associated products. I can
} navigate around the environment OK as user 'informix'. But when I log
} on as someone else and sitting in another directory, I am not able to
} run any of the ONLINE programs (ie., dbaccess, tbmonitor, etc.,). The
} error I get is:

} 529: Cannot attach to shared memory.
} 155: ISAM error: Primary and Mirror chunks are bad

} It also brings the engine down. The online logfile has these
} following messages:

} 16:05:20 INFORMIX-OnLine entering ABORT mode!!!

} I do have the same environment variables set in the .profile file for
} both logins. The search PATHs are also the same in both places.

} I hope this is enough information for some one to give me some hint as
} to where the trouble could be.
Almost certainly the permissions on the device or file where you have your
database created are wrong. They should be owned informix, belong to group
informix, and have 660 permissions. Users also need execute access on
directories leading to the device or file. If this isn't the problem,
then you need to check that the permissions on programs such as tbinit and
sqlturbo are set correctly.
It is odds on that one or other of these two is the trouble.
