I'm trying to establish access to my Informix server (Informix-SE 7.24 UC7 on a RS6000 box) from a win98 ibm pc. I followed the methods often listed here, but should be wrong somewhere. 1/ Installed Informix SDK 2.30 TC1-1 on the client, configuring with : Host name : houat Informix server : houat1 Protocol name : seipcpip Service name : sqlexec 2/ Aix server configured with /etc/services : sqlexec 1536/tcp 3/ Host names matches with sqlhosts file 4/ Problem with the sqlexecd daemon. If trying to start sqlexecd daemon with a user connection (user assigned with informix group, correct environment setting), returning error 25501 : must be root to start sqlexecd daemon If trying to start sqlexecd daemon as root, i don't have the environment settings. I move to /usr/informix/lib, where sqlexecd is located and start it with "./sqlexecd houat1" It returns error -25553 'Cannot open file rds.iem' i think i'm missing something. Briefly, questions are : 1/ sqlexec port assigned is often mentionned as 1526/tcp. i've been asked to set it as 1536/tcp . any effects ? 2/ should i set up any environnement variables to start sqlexecd ? 3/ ls -al in /usr/informix/lib gives : -rwsr-sr-x 1 root informix ...sqlexec -rwxr-xr-x 1 informix informix ... sqlexecd is it normal, or anything wrong during setup of IDS 7.24 ? I hope i did not ask dummy questions...if any, sorry ! Thanks for all. Christophe GAUDER. Capitaine HOUAT. / 56100 LORIENT France. cgauder@caramail.com
Hi there I've been trying to set up odbc to informix, and am relatively new in this area. When you configured it through setnet32, did you set all the environment variables stated on the first tab? If so, I would be grateful if you could advise me on how to do this. Thanks in advance * Sent from AltaVista http://www.altavista.com Where you can also find related Web Pages, Images, Audios, Videos, News, and Shopping. Smart is Beautiful
Try adding the following line to the file "services" (no extension) in the \\windows folder on the win98 client sqlexec 1536/tcp use wordpad and save as text Regards Lee.. -----Original Message----- From: Christophe GAUDER <cgauder@caramail.com> Newsgroups: comp.databases.informix Date: 18 November 1999 08:53 Subject: Informix access / ODBC problems >I'm trying to establish access to my Informix server (Informix-SE 7.24 UC7 >on a RS6000 box) from a win98 ibm pc. >I followed the methods often listed here, but should be wrong somewhere. > >1/ Installed Informix SDK 2.30 TC1-1 on the client, configuring with : >Host name : houat >Informix server : houat1 >Protocol name : seipcpip >Service name : sqlexec > >2/ Aix server configured with /etc/services : >sqlexec 1536/tcp > >3/ Host names matches with sqlhosts file > >4/ Problem with the sqlexecd daemon. >If trying to start sqlexecd daemon with a user connection (user assigned >with informix group, correct environment setting), returning error 25501 : >must be root to start sqlexecd daemon >If trying to start sqlexecd daemon as root, i don't have the environment >settings. Hi Dirk, First of all, let me say you're the best ;-) Follwing your tips, i've checked all the files and changed the protocol seipcpip to sesoctcp. Works fine now..but another problem appears. For people in the same situation than me, i list at the end of this message the files checked/modified. My problem now is that when i start sqlexecd, i can access to the database, but all the other users can go to the coffee machine for all the rest of the day....they are quite unable to work properly. Do you have any idea where to search ? Should i launch sqlexecd with "./sqlexecd houat1 &" ? Is it a problem of priorities for the access to the server ? or more simply, is it a normal thing that all the users want to kill me when i start this daemon ? Thanks to all of you for your assistance... Regards. Christophe ======================================= My config : For the Aix machine : sqlhosts file : houat1 sesoctcp houat sqlexec services file : includes this line sqlexec 1536/tcp Daemon : started sqlexecd with : ./sqlexecd houat1 For the PC client : Through setnet32, setup of server information : informix server : houat1 hostname : houat protocol : sesoctcp service : sqlexec Services file : includes this line: sqlexec 1536/tcp Hosts file : includes xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx houat (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP for the Aix machine) and that's all...
