We are running IDS 7.31.UC3 on HP box with HDR.
But i have the following problem.
Im bringing the primary DB to stand alone mode using
onmode -d standard then bringing the HDR with same command at thattime HDR is going online.
first i restarted primary and secondary then i put primary in sync
using onmode -d primary <db2name> then i have taken HDR to quiescent mode
and given onmode -d secondary <db1name>.
but its giving error like
"Two servers out of sync, restore required".
How to gracefully sync without restoring.
Pls help
Suresh
Hi,
As I understand HDR, you cannot setup a secondary without a restore. In your
case, the secondary instance has been online before and there might have
been changes in comparison to the primary. This is not supported. There has
to be a point where Informix can make sure the servers have identical data
(and is able to compensate the difference by exchanging LOG Files).
So: make a full backup of your first instance, make a physical restore on
the second instance (ontape -p) and then bring up HDR with onmode -d
primary/secondary. The HDR will start exchanging the log files (which are
written in the meantime after backup of first server) over the network and
after some time they are synchronized.
Make sure that all DBs must have logging enabled.

Another thing:
If you want to re-setup a previously active HDR, which has been broken for
some reason, do not make secondary a standard, but keep the secondary state
and restore only the missing log-files using ontape -l.
I think this could be possible. But only if the instance was never a
standard !
