Where do we all begin?
A dbspace is an area where databases, tables, etc can be stored. It is not
just one file, it is more likely to be a number of files or more likely
devices.
When a database is created it will have a base dbspace where all tables will
be created unless otherwise specified.
Many databases can use the same dbspace.
To discover which dbspace is used for this database use onmonitor - status -
database or use dbaccess with the sysmaster database and select * from
sysdatabases
To check the size of a dbspace use onstat -d and add up the chunk sizes for
the dbspace.
To add space to a dbspace add a chunk to a dbspace.
To check if there is really enough space note that the action of altering a
table makes a copy of the table. It is therefore necessary to have more
FREE space than the size of the table.
And finally,
I would strongly recommend that you get assistance form a trained Informix
DBA/System administrator. It is clear that you lack knowledge and need
training.
