On-Line installation(raw devices)

Hello, I'm actually working on a HP Series 9000/800 Model E35 with HP-UX 09.04 B and in order to install INFORMIX On-Line 7.1 I need to "create an unmounted piece of disk"(raw device). The disk is used at 20%, so I have space, but it is all mounted in various file systems. The question is: Is there a way to create a "raw device" without removing one of the file systems in order to create a character-special device(raw device) and then mounted again with a smaller size? And If there are NO ways of by-passing the problem, which solution would you use? Thanks in Advance!!
