Dont know what your .sql files contain (they usually would contain SQL scripts),
but have you tried opening them with vi?
If they are indeed SQL scripts, they will have something like CREATE TABLE at
the top. You would need to create a database. The simplest would be to create a
database, since this is temporary, would be to cd to wherever you want to be,
then invoking dbaccess -> database -> create. Then you can create the tables,
assuming the .sql files contain table creation scripts for tables cia and
movies, using query -> choose -> select file -> run.
If they dont have CREATE TABLE in them, then they are probably just SELECTs or
some such, so you would need the table definitions.
Although I suspect you have already opened these files with vi, and they dont
contain any SQL. So all this wasn't much help, was it?

Subject: Beginner: How can I load/import *.sql-Files?!?
Hi :-)
I'm very new at the InformixSE at Linux and on thursday I have a
SQL-test at school. I have two *.sql-Files from school and I want to
practice a little bit at home with these tables because I know them from
school.
The files are "cia.sql" and "movie.sql". How can I open them? I tried to
create a new database and I wanted to import these two files into this
new database but I don't know how :-]
It would be great if somebody can help me out because there are only
three days left....
Thanks :-)
Pietz
