IDS Multiplexing Configuration

Hi all, I tried configuring the IDS installed on a Windows 2003 Server to handle multiplexed connections, according to IBM Informix Performance Guide: 1. Set nettype to sqlmux 2. Added to "Options" the value "m=1" in the SQLHOSTS registry, for the corresponding dbservername. 3. According to the document, I need to now set the IFX_SESSION_MUX environment variable. However, I cannot find any documentation regarding the IFX_SESSION_MUX variable. Is this a boolean or any integer value? What about the client configuration? According to the documentation, there shouldn't need to be any special configuration on the client side. But, how would I get a client to explicitly create several sessions on the same connection? Any advice regarding the needed configurations to allow multiplexing would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Noa
Hi, > However, I cannot find any documentation regarding the IFX_SESSION_MUX > variable. Is this a boolean or any integer value? It can be set to any value, e.g. "1", it just needs to be defined. Setting a server environment variable on Windows means setting it in the Registry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\\\Software\\\\Informix\\\\Online\\\\%INFORMIXSERVER%\\\\Environment if the IDS instance is running as a service. There is some additional documentation in the ESQL/C manual: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v10/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.es qlc.doc/esqlc237.htm Regards Guy ----- Original Message ---- From: Noa Bar Yosef <Noa@imperva.com> To: ids@iiug.org Sent: Sunday, February 4, 2007 5:22:09 AM Subject: IDS Multiplexing Configuration [8339] Hi all, I tried configuring the IDS installed on a Windows 2003 Server to handle multiplexed connections, according to IBM Informix Performance Guide: 1. Hi All, First, thank you Guy and Sanjit for your replies. However, I'm still having problems multiplexing the client connections. On the server side, Windows 2003, I did the following: 1. In the ONCONFIG file, changed the NETTYPE value to be just sqlmux. 2. In the Registry key, in the path specified by Guy, I added a new String Value IFX_SESSION_MUX with the value 1. On the client side, in the SqlHosts/dbservername Registry Key, I added a new String Value OPTIONS (for some reason this didn't exist by default as on the server), with the value m=1. When sniffing the traffic from the client to the server, I see that 2 different network connections open when connecting twice to the database. Did I miss something in the above configuration? Thank you, Noa
On the client or server side: Go into Control Panel -> System -> 'Advanced' tab -> 'Environment Variables' button and add IFX_SESSION_MUX as and env variable.
