Re: Log Tapes and archive restore

Without thorough testing I would be doubtful of the whole concept. My understanding is that the archive tapes are not machine independent and you may not be able to do a level 0 archive on one box and restore to the other. Onarchive may be able to do this I'm not sure, certainly you should check with a consultant from Informix. As for using the logs from the nile box to keep your current box up-to-date after switch over you have two problems. 1) As above. Are the log files compatible between the different releases of Informix and the different hardware platform. This goes down to the level of hour numbers are stored on each of your hardware platforms. 2) Even if you can read it back onto the first box. Can you guarantee that the reason you want to switch back to the other box won't have also caused corruption of the log files. You are effectively talking about using Informix's hot back up capability to maintain the secondary machine. My understanding is that to do this successfully the hardware platforms, O/S level and Informix release levels should be identical. I would suggest employing a consultant from Informix to help you plan your move Cheers - Jim -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jim Gordon DHL Airways Inc. jgordon@us.dhl.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- My opinions are my own.
