Has any one out there played with this new utility yet? I've just downloaded it from Intraware and I was curious about if it is worth the hassle. John Carlson Informix DBA WHSmith USA
John, I downloaded it, but because it includes its own distribution of Perl it will not be installed. Whoever at Informix was in charge of this one really didn't think this through. Not to mention the fact that the install didn't work! Bummer too, because I was really hoping to finally see this tool. ( I got the Linux version ) Perhaps they'll rethink this one through, eliminate the Perl distribution from the install, and simply tell people what the minimum requirements are in order for it to work. It would be the same as any other product you install. Imagine including a c-compiler with every 4GL install, or how about an OS with every engine??? I've also been working on my own WebTop DBA tool, after waiting forever to get Informix's. Now I'm glad I went ahead with my own. :-) Tim "Carlson@WHSmith" wrote: > > Has any one out there played with this new utility yet? Not to mention that I downloaded a ZIP file from the Intraware website but the instructions assume a TAR file. Sounds like a good idea, but I guess I'll pass for now. Is anyone from Informix listening? export RANT_MODE=ON Speaking of not thinking things through . . . I received my copy of PCMagazine yesterday, halfway expecting my favorite database company to be listed somewhere. I found Oracle, Sybase . . . but no Informix. Maybe PCMagazine changed the requirements, but it disappointed me to find that Informix had been dropped from the list. Wake up call has been issued, Informix unset RANT_MODE John Carlson Informix DBA WHSmith USA <#include std_disclaimer.h> Tim Schaefer wrote: > > John, > > I downloaded it, but because it includes its own distribution of Perl > it will not be installed. I got the stuff on CD and it took me about 5 minutes to make it work. It looks OK and for a 1.00 version the functionality is very good IMHO. I did not download it but I ordered the CD from Customer Services. I took 5 minutes to install and have it running. (No hassle) I had it installed on 12 machines in less than 1 hour. It includes its own distribution of PERL and Apache. It seems to combine most of the features of IECC and OnMonitor but not all. IMHO it looks like it can have its uses. ( I would like, however, to be able to alter individual onconfig parameters al.la. OnMonitor, rather than just editing the entire onconfig file in an edit window) "Carlson@WHSmith" wrote: > Has any one out there played with this new utility yet?
