using sysmaster in 9.x

I am trying to use the same query in my 9x engines as I do in my 7x
engines to monitor users on the servers.....
SELECT count(*) AS totals,
sid AS sid,
username AS user,
sqs_dbname[1,16] AS database,
$date AS date
FROM syssessions, syssqlstat
where sid = sqs_sessionid
GROUP BY sid,username,sqs_dbname;
for some reason this seems to work fine for 7x but returns 0 rows for
the 9x engines when I can clearly see that the query should be returning
something else..... Can anyone help?
thanks, Maria

With 7.3 there is a configuration variable called TBLSPACE_STATS. If it
is not set in $ONCONFIG (I use 1), then table stats will not be kept. I
found that out when I upgraded from 7.2 to 7.3.
