hi guys,
After level-0 ontape backup completed , can do I
check the tape to ensure it has been backup
successfully beside looking at the online.log ?
The instance is on K580 HPUX
Is there any UNIX command to perform the above ?
Thanks in advance,
Lee

"this is my opinion:"
if you want to check, if the data stored correctly to tape, you can
create for e.g. a 2.nd instance of informix on another unix box and
try to restore the tape. From time to time I do this to create our
"stand-by box". (SAP R/3-Informix 7.3x - DB with about 70 GB,
ontape -L0)If you backup the database online, you'll never have the chance to
verify the work of ontape.

If you don't have sufficient resources to do a full restore onto a test
instance, informix does come with a utility called archecker that allows
you to check the validity of an existing archive. Archecker works with
ontape as well as onbar. Not so sure with onarchive though, but I use
archecker every now and then for both my ontape and onbar archives.
Note, archecker I believe isn't available in the earlier engines (i.e.
Informix 5) but is available in the Informix 7 engines and beyond.
I'd consult the backup & recovery manual for actual archecker
specifics. Best of luck...
