Please Art Curse....... I worked at Informix for 3.5 years and never got the ammo I needed to shoot down the 'Oracle' boys......gimme some....The best I can ever come up with is 'Data Warehousing'.........'cause in my experience (~10 years with Informix), we are behind in most facets. (besides DW)....... Man, gimme the ammo.................. -brian On Wed, 29 Mar 2000 12:42:27 -0500, "Art S. Here is my short list of beefs against O*(&^e: o One database, one server instance. 120 databases, 120 instances, 120 cache memory blocks, 120 listeners, 120 page sweepers, 120 independent backups, 120 time N server processes - Sheesh, sounds worse that SE don't it? o One user, one connection process if not parallel server. 1000 users, 1000 connection processes if not parallel server. Parallel server? 1000 users 5000 processes? I don't know. Sounds like OL5.xx to me? o Tech support that is slow, knows little, always responds with a pre-prepared position paper (sometimes helpful), and never knows when a problem will be fixed. o Engine heavy with non-standard SQL extensions that encourage development of applications that are non-portable. o Performance enhancements designed to make the server benchmark better but not neccessarily perform better in production. o Oracle consultants recommend that a cron script run every few minutes to restart the database should it crash unannounced. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! This is my favorite. Art S.
