ontape causing problems with IDS 9.4

Hi. With an IDS 9.4 FCX21 server there have been chronic and highly
intermittent issues with ontape. Sometimes during level 0 backups, level 1
backups, or ontape -a (just backing up the logs). Neither Informix Tech
support nor any dbas I know have been able to figure this one out. What
happens is that sometimes during the ontape execution either the server
crashes (and NOTHING is written to the online.log to serve as debug info) and
sometimes the server hangs in a CHKPOINT needed mode. The problem is NOT that
logical logs are filling up-there is plenty of free logs. Has anyone ever
encountered this situation? I know this is a kind of generic question but I am
really running out of ideas here. Thanks
Hi,
which OS and platform ? I have seen a similar issue - but only on HPUX IA64
(we only run HPUX PA-Risc, HPUX IA64, Linux 32bit).
We had a similar issue only when running ontape -a started from the alarm
program.
Our solution was to start ontape -a from cron regularly instead of starting it
from the alarm program every time a logical log was complete.
Regards,
Andreas

Hi. The OS is AIX 5.2 The problem with the archives actually occurs from ontapes scheduled in the cron.
