Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
A site running Informix Dynamic Server 7.31.UC2A on HP-UX 10.20 saw the engine go down with "parameter error" and "Assert Failed: unxdmnbe.c, line 595 ... buffer insertion failed" in thread ipcstrpoll (neterrb.c line 658), shortly after adding new fibre-channel RAID-1 disks. Replies noted the failing thread was a shared-memory/IPC poll thread and asked whether there had been network problems, and asked the poster to post the contents of the assertion-failure file /tmp/af.3f6cdda. The poster never followed up, so no cause or fix is recorded in the thread.

Yesterday afternoon we had a System Panic and only Informix go down.
The last saturday we made changes in our hard, we have put a new disks
devices, it is a HP FC10 (optic fibre) in RAID-1. Our system is a HPUX
10.20 with Informix 7.31 UC2.
The error message was:
16:23:23 (3) parameter error
16:23:23 Assert Failed: unxdmnbe.c, line 595, thread 14, errno=0, bufferinsert
ion failed.
16:23:23 Informix Dynamic Server Version 7.31.UC2A
16:23:23 Who: Session(3, informix@, 0, 0)
Thread(14, ipcstrpoll, 0, 3)
File: neterrb.c Line: 658
16:23:23 stack trace for pid 2733 written to /tmp/af.3f6cdda
We have never seen this error message before.
Someone has seen it before??? What can we do to prevent this situation???
Is it a Informix bug???
Thanks in advance for your help.

Did you have any problems with your network? It was apparently a poll
thread that caused this problem (ipcstrpoll).
