Exactly what do you want to develop? What does "our code" mean? Stored procedures? SQL code that's going to be imbedded in another language later on? Test code to run ad hoc reports and updates on the database during development of an application? For the last purpose we use MS Access. We have found that an excelent tool for the purpose, although there are some functionality that's lacking. You might also want to take a look at the IECC tool that's included with the 7.3 IDS engine. If you have an erlier version I don't know if you can get hold of this tool. Anyway it's a tool that seems to be similar to RapidSQL in some ways. Another thing is that I have an impression that with Sybase it's common to develop a lot of code in Transact-SQL. The nearest equivalent with Informix is their stored procedure language, but it's quite different. I don't know of any tool with spesific support for Informix stored procedure development. May be IECC has it. If your purpose is to do things similar to what you did in Transact-SQL it's highly likely that you will want to use some regular programming language like Informix 4GL, ESQL/C, Java or something else. (That's a much better option in most cases than an ultra proprietary solution like Transact-SQL anyway.) For this purpose you obviously need a development environement for the language of choice. For 4GL it's hard to beat vi/emacs and make when you know the language well. For beginners the Rapid Development System version of Informix 4GL is probably a good thing. (I may get flames for this view of RDS :-) For ESQL/C most C-development environements should work. For Java the best ones are IBM Visual Age for Java or Symantec's Visual Cafe.
