dbimport question: IDS 5.x
Posted in 1999
Topics: Migration, Import/Export & Data Conversion
I am attempting to fix a problem I am having with indexes and as part of this fix, the Informix Tech support person suggested that I do a dbexport of the database followed by a dbimport of the database. As I am fairly new to the product, I have a question about this. Once I have exported the database, is there anything I need to do before I import the database? Will the import write over what is currently there? Does dbexport remove the database, or just write out how the database is configured as well
as what is in it? If it just writes out what is there, then do I need to drop the database before I do the import?
Answers either here or at my email address will be appreciated.

You will need to physically drop the database before doing a dbimport. Of
course, I would suggest backing up the database before dropping. BTW Did you
try dropping and recreating the index? the table? before considering dropping
the database?
