logs are full

Hello all, I'm a real newbie to Informix, so I hope my question won't insult you. I've just set up Informix Dynamic Server version 7.30 on my NT workstation to do a test with my app. I managed to create the users, the database and run a script to create tables. Now when I go in I get an error about the logs being full. I followed the online help to backup the logs, but that either fails or hangs. Is there another way to increase/drop/backup these logs. I just wanted to do about 10 minutes of testing, and already I've spent over 8 hours banging my head. Any clues, would truly be appreciated. TIA Steve

Hi.
What you have to do is to add more logical logs to your system. With the
'onparams' command.
The system must be in quiesent mode for this. ( onmode -s )
To backup the logs just to get rid of them, turn the onconfig parameter
TAPEDEV to NUL, andin a dos-shell window run 'ontape -s -L 0' to do a level 0 backup to
'nowhere'. Just make sure you
change back the TAPEDEV parameter before you go into production with the
system.
The default size of the logs is just as much as Informix need to get
installed, so they are pretty full when ready to start working.
In NT you have this GUI tool IECC, that could be somewhat easier ( not
faster though ) than doing it from command line.
The 'onparams'-command however doesnt exists in IECC, so you have to do some
commandline-jobs anyway. The 'onparams'
is the only tool you've got when tampering with physical and logical logs.
If this system is to be in production, you might want to
move out the physical logs from rootdbs where they by default is placed. In
a smaller testsystem this is no real problem.
