No of Pages Consumed

Hi, I want to know if the number of pages stands at 98% used, and if i delete some rows from the table, will that space/pages (after deleting some rows) can be used for the new data ? We are using IDS FC7 on Sun Sparc. Thanks.
The space will remain assigned to that table and can only be used for new rows in that table. To release the space for other tables you will need to unload, drop, create, reload or relocate the table using a cluster index create. Yes. The deleted row space will be reused for new rows in the same table. If you need to release unused space within a table for use by other tables then you will have to reorg the table to coalesce the empty space into complete pages and free unneeded page extents to the free list. Or use ALTER FRAGMENT ... INIT IN... or use the "REPACK SHRINK" SQL API command. Art Art S. You can find how many pages are alocated and effectively used by querying
sysmaster. If you need the query to do it, please say so. But it's possible
to find in on the web.
If you delete rows, Informix will be able to use that space for new rows,
but the space will not be deallocated from the table.
Since you're running a version later than 11.50.FC4, you can "repack" and
"shrink" to try to free the unused space. Repack will move the rows to the
"beginning" of the table. This process may be able to leave completely
unused extents at the "end" of the table. Then, if this happens, "Shrink"
can be used to free that extents, which effectively detaches them from the
table and returns their pages to the dbspace free pages list.
ALTER FRAGMENT and CREATE CLUSTER INDEX can also be used to "rebuild" thetable and this will also free unused space (but you need downtime to do
that). Repack can be done "online" but that has some implications which must
be taken into consideration (it may affect query results - specially if your
queries do a full scan of the table).

congratulations: You're running the latest versions and AFAIK this is a very
good version.
