One reason we use synonyms is - We have about 9 different databases, and some of them share the same tables. Instead of duplicating these tables on all the databases, we have them in one database with synonyms pointing from the other databases to the one containing the tables. Another reason is also having old archive tables on a seperate instance of Informix. Instead of hardcoding database@server:tablename in the programs to access the remote tables, we use synonyms pointing from the local datase to the remote database, so in the programs you will only address "local tables". Does anyone use them? ____________________________________________________________________________ _________ Get more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com
