Hello friends, Thanks a lot to all of you for helping me solve the problem. Its very strange the problem was the keyword 'order'. I should have used some other word as the table name. But its very strange that 'select * from order' works fine, but 'update order ....' gives a syntax error. I have learned a good lesson, not to use keywords as variable/object names. BTW the system details are : Informix 7.24 UC4, HPUX 10.20 Thanks again. This reminds me - we have at work at little database with a table
called "release". When we upgraded to 7.23 the application using this
stopped working. It was throwing a syntax error on:
UPDATE release SET prog_status blah...
This was fixed when I hacked the script to say:
UPDATE "dba".release SET etc.
