Re: high-performance loader to named pipe
Posted in 2000
Doug,
Unload and loading to a named pipe works great.
The named pipe cannot be on an NFS mounted system.
An example of using a named pipe with HPL.
Set your unload device to pipe
"compress > /your/direcory/andfile.unl.Z"
Set you load device to pipe
"zcat /your/directory/andfile.unl.Z"
That is a simple example.
Now for something that does not have standard output.
mknod or mkfifo /home/informix/namedpipe.unl
dbaccess database <<EOF &
unload to "/home/informix/namedpipe.unl"
select * from yourtable;EOF
Set your device in HPL to Pipe
"cat /home/informix/namedpipe.unl"
As soon as dbaccess writes a line the HPL will
load the line. The namedpipe.unl file will not
grow very much. You are just bouncing the data
off of the pipe.
You can use this from a remote machine with
the rsh command. Have HPL call rsh on another
machine and just load the std.out.
Thanks
