Hello:
I need some help with Informix SE 7.24 UC10 and Informix 4GL 7.30 UC1.
The background:
Initially I used the following (development system) on SCO OpenServer =
5.0.2
Informix-SE 5.07.UC1
Informix-4GL 4.15.UC1 (Complier Version)
Informix-NET TCP/IP 5.07.UC1
=20
Subsequently I have got an upgrade from Informix which are (again a =
development system)
Informix-SE 7.22.UC3
Informix-4GL 6.05.UD2 (Complier Version)
Informix-NET TCP/IP 5.10.UC1
The following are the settings that I had used:
INFORMIXDIR=3D/usr/informix $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file contains : myse =
setlitcp scosysv sqlexec
/etc/hosts file contains : 192.168.10.2 scosysv =
scosysv.ramanan.com
/etc/services file contains : sqlexec 1525/tcp =
Informix sqlexec
I had a file created in the /etc/rc2.d directory that automatically =
executes the following script:
echo -n "Starting Informix SE 7.xx Database Server ..."
INFORMIXDIR=3D/usr/informix export INFORMIXDIR
SQLEXEC=3D$INFORMIXDIR/lib/sqlexec
export SQLEXEC
DBNETTYPE=3Dtcp/ip
export DBNETTYPE
INFORMIXSERVER=3Dmyse
export INFORMIXSERVER=20 $INFORMIXDIR/lib/sqlexecd=20
echo " done."
=20
I recompiled my 4GL codes the binaries were created (with static library =
- the default) successfully and I was able to execute my applications. =
Then my hard disk had crashed due to a power problem. When I re-did my =
entire system again, I upgraded my OS to SCO Open Server 5.0.4 =
andinstalled the following patches for the same in the order provided. =
=20
FOR OPENSERVER RELEASE 5.0.4
----------------------------
Major Supplements:
Release Supplement 504C for SCO OpenServer 5.0.4
Minor Supplements:
oss476a: Floppy Driver Supplement
oss478a: ATAPI (IDE) Driver BTLD
oss481a: SCO OpenServer SNMP Supplement
oss485a: OpenServer Memory Supplement
oss475a: lex/libl Development System Patch
oss480a: HTFS Supplement (requires rs504c)
oss459b: COFF Linker Supplement
oss469d: Networking and SMP Supplement (requires rs504c)
oss496a: Real Time Clock Supplement
oss495c: UDK Compatibility Module SLS
oss601a: Year 2000 Supplement
UDK : Universal Development Kit Compatiblity Module- =
OSRcompat.711.pkg.Z
oss465c: Scomail Supplement (requires rs504c)
oss621a: libc Supplement (requires rs504c and oss601a)
oss470a: Intel Pentium "Invalid Instruction" Erratum Supplement
oss471f : Intel Pentium Microcode Driver (requires rs504c)
Then I installed the same Informix software Informix-SE 7.22.UC3, =
Informix-4GL 6.05.UD2, Informix-NET 5.10.UC1 and restored my application =
binaries and the datas from the backup. The application worked fine =
with out any problem.
Then I learnt while browsing thru Informix web site that for both =
Informix-SE and Informix-4GL new releases were available and that there =
is an evalutation software available for download. I down loaded the =
same and installed it in the test system, after moving the existing =
Informix to a separate directory. (the OS and patches installed in the =
test and production systems are identical)
I learnt that this version of Informix-SE does not require the =
Informix-NET modules as they are build into the system. For this new =
system the following are the values used.
INFORMIXDIR=3D/usr/informix
INFORMIXSERVER=3Dmyse $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file contains : myse =
setlitcp scosysv sqlexec
/etc/hosts file contains : 192.168.10.2 scosysv =
scosysv.ramanan.com
/etc/services file contains : sqlexec 1525/tcp =
Informix sqlexec
Now the rc2.d file is as follows:
echo -n "Starting Informix SE 7.xx Database Server ..."
INFORMIXDIR=3D/usr/informix export INFORMIXDIR
INFORMIXSERVER=3Dmyse
export INFORMIXSERVER=20 $INFORMIXDIR/lib/sqlexecd $INFORMIXSERVER
echo " done."
Now since the default option for linking the library is dynamic, I have =
include the LD_LIBRARY_PATH to .profile. The DBPATH is also set, =
INFORMIXTERM is set to terminfo, PATH is also set correctly.
THE PROBLEM
With above configuration/settings for the new version for SE and 4GL, I =
am able to create database, access them using dbaccess. However, when I =
tried to use i4gl to write a Mickey mouse program to access the =
database, I get the following error:
Program stopped at "test.4gl", line number 8.
4GL run-time error number -25574.
Network driver cannot open the network device.
The following is the screen output of the code.
1
2
3 DATABASE test@myse
4
5 MAIN
6
7 DEFINE p_master RECORD LIKE master.*
8
9 DECLARE q_curs CURSOR FOR
10 SELECT * FROM master
11
12 START REPORT cust_list
13
14 FOREACH q_curs INTO p_master.*
15
16 OUTPUT TO REPORT cust_list (p_master.*)
17
18 END FOREACH
19
20 FINISH REPORT cust_list
21
22 END MAIN
23
=20
However, if I change the nettype in the sqlhosts file to sesoctcp, i am =
able to execute the compiled program (which gives me an SQL error ) but =
I am neither able to access the database using dbaccess nor able to =
compile the same program afresh. I get the following error: " The =
specified service name or protocol is unknown. "
And if use the nettype provided for the se_demo ie seipcpip for myse =
then i receive the following error while the script at rc2.d is being =
executed:
# ./S90informix
Starting Informix SE 7.xx Database Server ...2001-02-08 14:17:19.230000 =
daemon
err =3D -25592: Communications service not supported by network driver.
done.
#
Kindly advice as what i need to do get this one going......
Best Regards
Ramanan.

When using sesoctcp, You need to run sqlexecd. Did You start it?
