Help
I need to a quick SPL job for a client on Informix. I need to install on NT4
as I'm doing the work at home ( it will run live on unix with an
administrator ).
I've installed DS7.x out of the box, created some tables and the thing is
sick saying it needs backing up to clear the logs.
I've found ontape which seems to do what I want but don't know the syntax
It keeps asking to mount a tape?).
I really need to create extra dbspaces, but again the documentation supplied
is a little light on the syntax for onspace, and what I need to do.
Any info for a easy install to do a little development work would be greatly
received.

It's really shocking that Informix don't ship manuals with their NT port. :-(
That _is_ the reason you didn't read them, isn't it? )-:
Set:
LTAPEDEV NUL
in your onconfig file. All will be well.
Hi Pat.
To do some ontape on NT4, you have to decide if the 'backup' is worth
saving, or not.
In your onconfig-file. %INFORMIXDIR%\\etc\\onconfig.'databasename', you set
the TAPEDEV
parameter to either a filename ( whatever ) or if you don't want the bacup
saved, set it to NUL.
The syntax for a complete level 0 backup is 'ontape -s -L 0'
There is a parameter in your onconfig-file that tells where the logical logs
ends up when backed-up.
LTAPEDEV. You might want to set it to NUL as well during the installation.
Setting these two to NUL is a very good way to mane sure you're NOT able to
save ANY backups, so
don't walk around doing it on the production-system.
In the NT-world of Informix, there is a tool, or at least used to be, called
IECC. It's removed from some of
the later 7.x versions, but in some of the earlier it's still there. It
makes it very easy to create dbspaces.
