Subject: ESQL-C with RH ES and IDS9.40UC4
Hi list(s) -
We have a new installation of the above - Got the new ESQL-C specifically for
RH ES :
esql -V output:
IBM Informix CSDK Version 2.81, IBM Informix-ESQL Version 9.53.UC3
Sporadically (more often than not) any ESQL-C programs we run fail at the
database declaration line with a 25588 error. The database otherwise (as
far as we know) is completely functional: Our screens (FourJS) as well as
any dbaccess we do work fine. When the ESQL-C programs do start, they run
through fine with no other errors. No complaints in online.log ...
HELP HELP!!
Thanks in advance.

No
solution I'm afraid, but...
Is this the first time you try to communicate with a database?
Have you tried catching the error and looping back to try again? using
sqlexit() to break the connection and start again...
What about not using the shared-memory connection? May not solve the
problem, but might get you out of a hole...
Does the code pass cleanly through something like Purify and not leak or
access free-d memory, etc?
Hope you get a solution,
ANdy.

Tried
eschewing shared memory, no change. I can reduce the code down
to just the database declare and it (mis)behaves the same way. It is possible
to loop through the error and make it eventually work, but it takes
about 12 seconds to fail each time, plus that's a bit too ugly for my
liking! This same code runs (and has run for
many years) on platforms as diverse as SCO OpenServer with IDS 9.21,
and AIX 5.xx
with 5.0 SE ... I'm wondering if it's some /usr/lib based library
difference / mismatch ...
Thanks!
