That's an awful idea, RAID will never protect you from accidents, be them
logical (oninit -iy) or phisical (Obnoxio's fire) or even worse, a deliverate
atack to your DB. Backup is a most and your only hope. Forget religion :-)

OK, thank you all for the better or worse ideas. But remember, nobody and
nothing could assure you 100% data protection. And software is always weaker
than hardware. So if your budget permits, buy a Storage Area Network system
which is pretty mature nowadays yet expensive.
