I am getting ready to setup a database server for our production floor system and am evaluating different hardware/software possibilities. I have a few questions: 1) What PC based Unix Operating Systems are supported? 2) Is there a good C/C++ API, or is everything done through Embedded SQL? 3) If SQL only, is there Dynamic SQL or just Static? 4) Can I set the format used for date/time/timestamp columns? 5) Can nested select statements be used? (e.g. SELECT * FROM JUNK WHERE COL = (SELECT COL2 FROM JUNK2)) 6) Can a database be backed up while it is running or does the engine have to be shut down?
