RE: Using Onbar to do a system restore

You have to make onbar believe that it is restoring from a backup taken
from the machine to which it is being restored. Depending on your
storage manager this can be a difficult or impossible task.
We use ADSM for our storage manager. It permits this type of restore.
However, the procedure is not obvious.

Subject: Using Onbar to do a system restore
Hello all,
Time for my daily stupid question. We are trying to do a system
backup on one machine (onbar -b -w) which worked fine. Then we want to
restore it onto another machine, both have the same version of
informix. How does it know where to find the backup and how do we
direct it to another location?

Having done some searches, looks like this is exactly what I need. So,
does anyone know how to "make onbar believe that it is restoring from a
backup taken from the machine to which it is being restored"? Should I
make believe onbar, ADSM or both?
Can I get some opinions about the following scenario:
2 Unix boxes running the same version of Informix (7.31UC3), the first
one called prodbox10 and the second one devbox11. Both running Solaris
2.6 and both are using ADSM storage manager.
Is it possible to:
1. Create another instance on devbox11 with the same onconfig from
prodbox10 with the same chunks names and sizes (btw is there any easy
way - unix command, to determine a raw partition size?)
2. Bring the instance up and do onbar -r -t <time>. Remember I have
backups (L0 and L1) of prodbox10 and devbox11. I need prodbox10 backup
to go to devbox11.
Will this work? What changes, if any, to ixbar should I do? What
commands, if any, should I issue to ADSM (like dsmc -server=prodbox10 or
similar)?
Looks like Richard asked more or less the same question, but I couldn't
find any straightforward answer.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
