You might want to know that Informix plan to replace the Java Api with JDBC ver. 2.0 drivers as soon as those can be finished. One difference up to version 2 of JDBC is support for SQL 3 which essentially means support for user defined data types and other things found in the Universal Data Option. As long as you are using only IDS 7.x you can use current versions (1.x) of JDBC with no problems. One of the best drivers currently available seems to be the one from OpenLink which is a type 3 JDBC driver. Informix is also working on a JDBC type 4 driver which is in beta now and is supposed to be released relatively soon. I don't know anything about the quality and features of that driver.
