We're using R&R Report writer and have been successfully using the ODBC
driver over I-Net for Windows with Win95 and it works alright, however
I recently downloaded the evaluation version of Openlink's ODBC system
which uses a proprietary back end ODBC server which runs on the same
box as the Informix database engine (and can attach via shared memory,
very nice, very speedy) and am very pleased with the performance boost.
I also don't miss seeing all the "UNKNOWN" connected users which onstat
reports when the report writer users attach to the database over the
Intersolv ODBC + I-Net connections. The Openlink system uses it's own
tcp-ip communications which takes that load off of the Online engine's
network threads (not that big of a load in the first place, but with
the past problems we've experienced with the network support in the engine
we'd rather minimize the amount of tcp-ip communications that it has to
do :-). Openlink has native 32 bit ODBC client software for Win95 too.
I'm not affiliated with Openlink in any way, except that my company is
about to send them a purchase order right after the first of the year,
so that we can put all of our R&R and MS-Access users on their ODBC
system and shelve the old Intersolv ODBC/I-NET software.

Neal
