User Permissions

Sorry if this gets double posted but I sent this out a week ago and it hasn't shown up on the list yet... } I'm using On-Line Version 7.22 (HP-UX 10.20) } } We've recently decided that having all of our default database } permissions given to public was a security risk (don't ask why, you } really don't want to know). So I've been given the task of taking all } permissions for public and giving them to each user explicitly. } } The problem is that there are about 1200 lines (grant select on table } to user) of permissions for public times 250 or so users. After } adding about 70 or so users' worth of permissions the whole engine } starts to crawl. Even updating statistics on systabauth, syscolauth, } and sysusers doesn't really help. } } Looking at the extents syscolauth and systabauth both have 68! The } next extent size doubling seems to be working, but is there any way I } can change next size to something quite larger. Have I missed the } boat, now that I already have too many extents? Is it possible to } remove the extra extents w/o dropping the database? } } I could use roles (I'm only assuming that this would be quicker) but } not all of our apps are 4gl's, and you can't choose a role from } within a perform screen or an Ace report (can you?). } } Has anyone else seen this sort of performance degradation with large } permission sets? What types of work-arounds have you found? Is there } a scheme I haven't thought of? } } Thanks in advance for any help.
