Hi !!! I need to know how I can set up several instances of the Informix Dynamic Server 7.3x in the configuration files "sqlhosts", "onconfig" and the ".profile" (environment file). Now I have only one instance but I want to add one more...please I'd like to see an example of several instances configuration. Thanks. Alejandro Cabrera acabrera@topmail.com.ar

This is actually quite simple. You just create a separate ONCONFIG file
for each (name then onconfig.<servername> for example). Make the following
parameters different in each file:
SERVERNUM
DBSERVERNAME
DBSERVERALIASESROOTDBS (different either in path or offset - careful!)
You can share one sqlhosts file or use different ones depending on if
the instances need to be able to see each others' data. If different use
SQLHOSTS or INFORMIXSQLHOSTS variable to locate the right one. Place
entries for each DBSERVERNAME and DBSERVERALIAS for all or some of the
instances in the file. Servers on the same physical host must use
different service/port ids/numbers.
In the users .profile set INFORMIXSERVER to the servername of his default
server and provide scripts to set the others when run as a 'dot' script:
. informix.server1
. informix.server2
SERIOUSLY consider using my onspaces wrapper, aspace, to manage disks so you
do not have the engines stepping on each others disks. Aspace is in utils_ak
