Click OK and that should be that. HTH Malc > > -- > Posted via CNET Help.com > http://www.help.com/ > Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
Hi, > SERVICE NAME - same as the server name it's the /etc/services entry on the HP box for your DB TCP/IP socket. Greetz, Andi
With setnet32, here's all that you have to do in a running list of
everything I can remember but the order isn't important. Just make sure
you've done everything on the list or else it won't work.
1. Make sure your INFORMIXDIR variable is set in the path of your local
machine (Win98 box).
2. Go to the services file on your local machine (I think
c:\\windows\\drivers32\\etc\\services) and add the entry that matches the
/etc/services entry for your informix database. In other words, there's an
/etc/services file on your unix server. Find the corresponding tcp port for
your database. For example, if in your $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file you
have this entry:
server1 onsoctcp hp_unix_server server1_tcp
your /etc/services file should have an entry for server1_tcp with a
corresponding port number (i.e. server1_tcp 1521/tcp).
Put this same entry into your windows services file. You can modify this
file with notepad.
3. Open up setnet32. There should be tabs at the top which say server and
host or something like that. Click on those tabs and input your
dbservername, service, protocol (onsoctcp, ontlitcp, onipcshm, etc). On the
host tab, input your servername, whether or not to connect via password,
etc.
4. Once you've set everything up, you can try to connect to your database
with the Ilogin demo in the Informix menu through the start button. This is
a simple connect to the database in question and will either work or won't,
depending on your values.
Note, these instructions above are totally neglecting the fact that you may
have to tweak your ODBC parameters if you eventually want to connect to the
database via MS Access or Excel. Those ODBC drivers are going to be found
in your control panel and will require tweaking as well. The information
there will be very similar to the information you entered in your setnet32
window so keep that in mind. Hope this helps. Good luck.

It's not gonna be an orgy...it's a toga party.
On my Windoze 98 machine I have not modified either c:\\windows\\services or c:\\windows\\hosts. All the configuration was done thru setnet 32 and it works connecting to IIF 2000 v9.2, IDS v7.22 and IDS v7.3.
