Ty O'Kelly got 'Error inserting system catalog record' and a duplicate unique key ISAM error loading a 7.31 onunload file into an IDS 2000 instance. Rudy Fernandes, Art S. Kagel and John Carlson replied that onunload/onload write page images and cannot cross versions or platforms. Alternatives given were dbexport/dbimport, dbaccess load/unload, other text-based utilities, or migrating the instance.

has anyone noticed any problems using onunload/onload to move a database
from a 7.31 instance to a 2000 instance? i get the following error
messages when i try to import a dump file created with 7.31 into 2000:
"Error inserting system catalog record."
"ISAM error: duplicate value for a record with unique key."
thanks for the input.

You're pretty lucky to get that far - onunload/onload cannot be used to
move databases across versions. You can, very easily, migrate your entire
7.3 instance to ids2000. Or, use dbexport/dbimport.

Onload/onunload are binary import/export utilities that read and write page
images. You cannot use them to migrate between platforms or between
different versions on the same platform. Use dbimport/dbexport, my
myexport/myimport utilities, dbaccess load/unload commands, or Jonathan
Leffler's sqlcmd load/unload or sqlload/sqlreload utilities. All are text
based. In addition if the two servers can talk to each other you can use
my dbcopy utility to do a high speed server-to-server copy.

Are you sure that you can use onunload / onload between versions? The
Migration Guide says that original and target databases must be on the
same version of the server (p.11-66)
