RE: Limited number of 2 GB chunks on big disks

No, not on the versions of UNIX I know. On SUN you can use partition 2 also, but that will only give you 16Gig. Use Veritas Volume Manager. Just find out if VVM supports extra slices on your platform. Use a smart raid controller. With Compaq you can stripe, say 4 {mirrored} * 9 Gig = 36 Gig {RAID 10} drives together and split the stripe set into 18 * 2 Gig logical luns. These logical luns will look to the system as a drive on its own. You can even slice/partition them further. Remember, more smaller drives, more spindles and better performance. -----Original Message----- From: Miran Nikolic [SMTP:miran.nikolic@telekom.si] Sent: Wednesday, June 07, 2000 9:34 AM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Limited number of 2 GB chunks on big disks Hi Is it possible to use chunks bigger than 2 GB. There is a limited number of partitions (on UNIX) on big disks (36 GB). I can't use whole disk if I want to have chunks on raw devices. Is there only solution to have chunks on files, what about performance ?! thanks Miran
