Hi, I am using IDS 11.70 FC7 on AIX. I just wanted to ask that If I can run an informix cluster (having pri, hdr-seconary & rss) and all three servers could use the same port while running on the different machines? And in case if i needed to perform a switchover, will it all work fine? Can anyone share any downside of this strategy? Does it have any performance, network implications? Or please tell me what is the best practice for this? Thanks. Regards, Khan
This question seems similar to another one posted yesterday. I'm probably missing something, but why would it matter? How will clients decide to which server they're gonna connect? Will you have any trick with DNS to redirect the clients? Or a virtual IP address? No problems. Connecting to Informix involves the port (or server number for shared memory connections), protocol, and IP address so as long as the primary and any secondaries are all on different machines, all is well and they can share the same port. This is actually the most common configuration. Art Art S.
