RE: 4gl problems

I too have used Dave Snyders db4glgen. The copy I have is v3.3 from 91/12/08. Old but good. My general use of db4glgen is for building administrative access to application lookup tables. In these cases I modify the code in two ways. First I change db4glgen+s main into a function. I then rename the cursors (std_curs, upd_curs, q_curs) declared in the code so that they will be unique to the table accessed in the source file that was generated from db4glgen. The modified db4glgen code is then compiled with a new main 4GL source file to create an administrative application for lookup tables used in an user application. ---------- From: ilist To: internet!rmy.emory.edu!informix-list Subject: 4gl problems Date: Wednesday, March 29, 1995 4:19PM I have used Dave Snyders db4glgen v3.21 for the main table and 3 subtables. Even with modifications his code lends a consistency that makes it easy to make modifications once you understand the code. I think it's great! So I have added a 'Tables' selection to the main table's menu that when accessed opens up another window with menu selections for the 3 subtables. Each of the 3 subtables calls separate db4glgen modules for adding, updating deleting the appropriate row determined by the common one column key. This all works 100% of the time for adds. Updates of the subtables some times has a problem. The change is made to the column and the operator hits Escape, the change is negated (the original data comes back) and the error message shows at the bottom of the window: UPDATE table (%s) is not the same as the cursor table. I thought I had this fixed once when I 'free(d)' the cursurs in all the subtables modules. If the operator exits the program and comes back in it works fine (the update of the subtable). I have no idea where to look now. Any suggestions? Thanks ~
