I know I'm gonna get hammered for a dumb question but I'm stuck. I downloaded Informix SE and untared it into dirs. All went well until I ran install and I get the message: "INFORMIXDIR not set" (or something close to that) ???! OK, I admit "INFORMIXDIR" is not set but I haven't a clue what to set it to. Any suggestions..... anyone..... anyone? jkimble@one.net
Hi James, INFORMIXDIR needs to point to the directory in which you put the informix dirs. They are the etc, bin, release and so on. This env. variable and PATH need to be set for ALL users who want/need to access the informix database(s). PATH needs to be $INFORMIXDIR/bin Cheers Nick James Kimble schrieb: > I know I'm gonna get hammered for a dumb question but I'm > stuck. I downloaded Informix SE and untared it into dirs. Something informix forget to provide with there file. walter -- ----- "Nobody would have the gumption to tell the captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise he couldn't have his doctor, his dentist, his favorite carpenter, or his dog groomer at his side if he wanted to, security clearance or not." -----
I've just set the following environment variables in the .bash_profile if
the home directory of user Informix and user dba:
INFORMIXDIR=/opt/informix
INFORMIXSERVER=demo_se (or whatever your server name is in$INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts)
PATH=$PATH:$INFORMIXDIR/bin
then in the
EXPORT
line in .bash_profile, I append
INFORMIXDIR INFORMIXSERVER PATH
to the end, and now every time this user logs in, Informix is available. If
you don't want to let any other users have access to Informix, exclude
appending to the EXPORT line. It seems to work for me.
